Improvements in Afghanistan’s Agriculture

Agriculture in Afghanistan looks set to undergo some major improvements.  Recent news is that nine hydrometric machines have been installed in Logar, an eastern province of the country.  This could potentially be extremely beneficial for agriculture in Afghanistan since it can assess how much water exists underground and the direction of the wind.  As well, this can “help Afghans determine drought levels as well as provide information for weather forecasts.”  It was the Czech Republic which funded this project, donating $230,000.

Afghan-American Relations

Afghan-American relations have improved over the years.  Hamed Wardak is one such individual who has been working towards bettering the quality of these relations, especially with the movement he founded, the Afghan-American Chamber of Commerce.  For more information on these relations as well as other international links Afghanistan has, read: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Foreign_relations_of_Afghanistan

Education and Hamed Wardak

Young, educated and successful businessmen understand only too well the benefits of a good education.  Businessman Hamed Wardak was awarded Valedictorian of Georgetown University in 1997 and elected American Rhodes Scholar.  He also has a BA in Government and Political Theory and an M. Phil, and M. Litt in Politics from Oxford University.

Education for Women in Afghanistan

Kabul University recently held a ceremony marking the handing over of the National Women’s Dormitory to the Ministry of Higher Education from international donors.  Important dignitaries were present, including acting Minister of Higher Education, Sarwar Danish, as well as other Afghan and foreign officials.  The dorms were first built by Americans back in the 1970s but since then have undergone much damage so renovations were funded by the American government.  But two years ago, this was taken over by the Asia Foundation, which completed its task last year.  The dorms can now house over a thousand female university students in Kabul.  According to various sources, this was an extremely important step since it marks “a step further in the Afghan government being much more self-sufficient and less dependent on foreign organizations.”

Hamed Wardak and Refurbished Afghan Facilities

Afghanistan can always do with some extra financial input into many of its premises. Hamed Wardak, an advocate for improving the quality of lives for the people of Afghan, would be only too delighted at the recent ceremony in Heart which took place to, “officially re-open and celebrate the completion of refurbishment activities on two medical facilities – a pediatric and a regional hospital.” Whenever structural improvements are made on institutions in Afghanistan, this can only be extremely beneficial to all of the region’s people.

Hamed Wardak and Afghan Institutions

Renovating any of the institutions – medical, educational, sports, etc. – is something people like Hamed Wardak support not only verbally, but also financially. Recently he donated $20,000 to the Nooristan Foundation’s “Evening of Hope to Benefit Afghanistan,” which is raising money to enable the people of Afghanistan to realize their dreams through supporting charitable and educational programs in the region. The fact that over a million Euros was just now spent on renovating Heart’s pediatric hospital and new medical equipment brought in, is yet another way in which dedicated organizations and individuals (very much like Hamed Wardak) are helping the people of Afghanistan, in very practical ways.
