President Karzai & President Obama to Meet

Today, May 12th, President Obama will welcome Afghan President Hamid Karzai to the White House for a second day of partnership talks. Certainly, this is promising news to advocates of Afghan-US relations like Hamed Wardak.

In addition to meeting with President Obama, Karzai will also meet with Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi and other House leaders later in the day on Wednesday. While Obama and Karzai have recently had some issues with each other, these do not serve as obstacles for them.

As Secretary of State Hillary Clinton explained on Tuesday, “President Obama and President Karzai both understand that the ability to disagree on issues of importance is not an obstacle to achieving our shared objectives, but rather it reflects a level of trust.”
